Jakarta BPBD Issues Warning as Tidal Floods Threaten Coastal Areas

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has urged residents to remain vigilant against potential tidal flooding, known locally as rob, forecasted to occur over the next week, specifically from December 30, 2025, to January 7, 2026.

This phenomenon may result in coastal flooding

Jakarta BPBD Acting Head, Isnawa Adji said, the coastal flood risk is triggered by maximum sea tides coinciding with the full moon and Perigee phase—when the moon is at its closest point to Earth. This astronomical alignment is expected to elevate sea levels along Jakarta’s northern coast.

"This phenomenon may result in coastal flooding, particularly in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta," he noted, Tuesday (12/29).

BPBD Urges Residents to Anticipate Extreme Weather

According to data from the Tanjung Priok Class I Maritime Meteorology Station, peak high tides are projected to occur between 6 AM and 12 PM across several areas. These include Kamal Muara, Pluit, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and Seribu Islands.

Jakarta BPBD has urged coastal residents to heighten their vigilance regarding weather changes and sea conditions. The agency further cautioned the public to avoid activities in tidal flood-prone zones, especially during peak tidal hours.

They are also urged to ensure that local drainage systems are functioning properly to mitigate the potential for water pooling.

BPBD has also called on the public to monitor information and early warnings through official channels, such as bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut and pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id. Residents are also encouraged to report any potential inundation or flooding via the JAKI application.

"In case of an emergency, the public can immediately contact the 112 emergency hotline," he stated.
